Software that You Can Control

Hi Reader,

If you’ve been feeling squeezed by rising software costs, you’re not alone. And honestly, it’s not just about the price anymore.

Just yesterday someone told us:

“All the big bookkeeping software options are run by companies I would rather not support. Very interested to see what you have.”

For years, software companies have been pushing everything toward cloud-only, subscription-only systems. They control the pricing, the features, the updates. Even how you can access your own data.

QuickBooks Desktop used to be a tool you owned. Now it’s something you rent.

So naturally, one of the biggest questions we’re getting right now is:

“Can I bring my QuickBooks Desktop data with me?”

The short answer: Yes — but there’s one extra step.

QuickBooks Desktop databases are accessible, but you need a special third-party tool to unlock them. That tool is QODBC (a one-time $149 purchase), which allows our QuickBooks Importer to read and migrate your data into Brass Jacks Bookkeeper.

A couple things to know:

  • Credit card transactions don’t import directly (that’s a QuickBooks limitation), so they’ll be entered as a journal entry — and we provide clear guidance on how to do that.
  • If you'd like an easier option, we offer a Done-For-You import service for $299 per company.

You can read more about how it works here:

For many people, the bigger picture is this:

It’s about getting back to something stable and simple.
Something
you control.

In bookkeeping solidarity,
