Most of our students kind of "fell into" bookkeeping. They watched a few YouTube videos and got the gist of things, but if we're being honest here, that's wasn't really enough.

They didn't understand WHY they were doing what they were doing.

Which leaves a lot of room for error.

And when a problem arose that they hadn't encountered before they didn't always know WHAT to google.

Understanding the accounting concepts behind the bookkeeping is critical, especially if you don't have someone looking over your shoulder or reviewing your work on a regular basis.

It may seem like things are going OK on the surface but when your CPA gets your books in a month or so, you may be in for a surprise... and not the good kind.

CPAs love us because our books are delivered in a neat and tidy package.

Our job as bookkeepers is to make sure we've taken all the transactions from the year and organized it in a meaningful and understandable way.

Because the bookkeeping should be essentially DONE when the books get to the accountant. There shouldn't be a bunch of recoding or questioning for them to do.

Did you look at the balance sheet? Do you even know what those numbers mean on there?
